The Angel Baby Bags project is a pilot program launched by the Auxiliary at the beginning of 2022. This program benefitting the moms of newborns who are patients at the Angel Harvey Family Health Center, is still going strong in 2024.
This program is a small part of the IWS Family Health Center's Angel Baby initiative. This initiative is based on an integrated model of health care developed to ensure a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby by providing immediate access to medical, dental, and Care Coordination services.
The Family Health Center's staff had found that when new mothers brought their baby in for its first medical appointment after delivery, those mothers often did not have critical supplies. The Auxiliary and Clinic leadership concluded that it would be helpful for new parents to get essential baby items that are not covered by insurance or are difficult for financially-challenged families to purchase. This includes items such as a good thermometer, a nasal aspirator, and a gas-and-colic reliever, as well as newborn diapers, diaper rash cream, wipes, etc. Our nine Auxiliary chapters enthusiastically agreed to take on this pilot project and committed to sponsoring a total of 50 Angel Baby Bags.
Once again our Chapter, along with the 7other Infant Welfare Chapters went over and above in providing 400 Angel Baby bags for Moms of newborns!
Our Wheaton-Naperville Chapter committed to purchasing a list of core items, as well as some suggested additional items. The families who receive our bags will have a wonderful start on their journey with new babies!
A big “thank you” to our members for their efforts and donations that made our commitment a reality. You all rock!
